Katherine - Too old and too
female to keep up
Problem
Katherine had been unemployed for over a year. A corporate restructuring had left her downsized from a senior executive position and a very successful and high profile career.
Initially through her extensive network and reputation she was able to generate al to of interest and meetings, but slowly the interviews dried up and she felt that as a female and just 50 – she was considered the wrong profile for the fast paced industry that was her home.
She had even resorted to taking two much lower level part time positions because she felt she was not going to get hired again.
Solution
First of all Katherine needed a confidence boost, that was only going to come from getting interviews again.
We needed to get clear on her unique value then communicate that effectively by re-working her career marketing documents (resume, cover letter) to better reflect her unique skills and abilities and then to approach her whole job search as if she were starting again.
Networking was going to be key so we also worked on developing some unique marketing documents solely for use in referral and employee introduction situations.
Katherine had lost many of the self imposed disciplines to her job search and so we put in place regular virtual and physical ‘check ins’ to help her remain committed and focused and give her a champion in her corner.
Result
She quickly learnt what was working for her and what was not. She became more aggressive in her job searching and utlilized many resources she was not previously aware of or had thought about.
More opportunities were created, which led to interviews and the rise in self esteem was very evident.
Katherine became employed again in her chosen field in less than 4 months.
